The CSG Top-Up grant is introduced to assist relatives caring for orphans to provide for their basic needs. The purpose is to keep them within their extended family environment without removing them from familiar households.
Child Support CSG Top – up Grant – Benefits for Shortlisted Beneficiaries
These children will receive their basic CSG of R480, plus an additional amount of R240, bringing the total to R720.
- The primary care giver must be a South African citizen, permanent resident or refugee.
- Both the applicant and the child must reside in South Africa.
Qualification/Requirements
To qualify SASSA Child Support Grant (CSG), Applicants must prove that a child is an orphan by providing:
- Certified copies of the death certificates of the child’s parents; or
- Where the death certificate of one of the parents cannot be obtained by the applicant, a certified copy of the death certificate of one parent plus an affidavit by the applicant attesting to the unknown status of the child’s other parent.
How to apply for 2022/2023 Child Support CSG Top – up Grant

Caregivers who are eligible can now apply for the CSG Top-Up grant at any of SASSA local office or Online at services: sassa.gov.za as of 01 June 2022.
