Kogi State announces date for Schools Resumption both Secondary and Tertiary Institutions

Kogi State Government has fixed date for the reopening of schools which is slated to be on September 14, 2020, both Primary, Secondary and Tertiary institutions are to resume on September 14, 2020. Read more under.

As we promised to bring update about Schools Resumption across 36 State of Federation, we are glad to inform you that Kogi State Government has announced reopening of Schools in Kogi State Nigeria.

According to the State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mr Wemi Jones, the State Government arrived at decision after series of interaction with the relevant stakeholders and assessment of both private and public schools in the state to ascertain their level of preparedness and safety for reopening of schools from COVID-19 break.

Excellency, Governor Yahaya Bello, had directed the closure of all schools from primary to tertiary institutions in the state from March 23, because of the ravaging COVID-19 pandemic.

Therefore, upon further review having had several meetings with relevant stakeholders, His Excellency has directed that all schools in Kogi State should fully reopen on September 14, 2020, Mr Wemi Jones said.

State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mr Wemi Jones, however, advised all heads of schools to ensure full compliance with the COVID-19 protocols which had been clearly set out by the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19.

Meanwhile, Lagos and Osun States have set resumption dates for schools to reopen from 14 and 21 September, 2020, while Kogi State have ordered Primary, Secondary and Tertiary institutions to reopen on 14 September, 2020.

However, States including Ogun, Katsina, Bauchi, Enugu, Sokoto, Gombe and Ekiti on Sunday ruled out full reopening of schools, including tertiary institutions, despite the success recorded so far in the fight against COVID-19.

Jones enjoined all relevant educational stakeholders like ANCOPSS, ASSUS, SUBEB, NAPPS, NUT, STETSCOM, Heads of state’s Tertiary Institutions, and every other stakeholder to liaise with the ministry for further clarification.
